The Region 8 SYP will no longer take place in 2020 and to make up for the loss of the event IEEE Region 8 Student Activities Committee, Region 8 Young Professionals, and Region 8 Women in Engineering have come together to present a new virtual congress.
The IEEE R8 Virtual Student and Young Professional Congress will take place between the 14th and 26th of September, between 18:00 and 21:00. Each day will be hosted by a different Section from Region 8, with local content presented online across our region. Some Sections, where health and safety regulations allow, will host in person meet-ups, which will be broadcast online.

She has more than 30 years of industry experience in the application of software engineering methodologies, the management of information systems, and leadership of software development teams. She is the author or co-author of a number of texts, papers, webinars all supporting sound software engineering principles and practical application of software process methodologies
Magdalena Salazar Palma
She has coauthored 2 European/USA patents and several software packages for the analysis and design of microwave and millimeter wave passive components, antennas and antenna arrays, advanced filters and multiplexers, which are used by multinational companies. She has participated (as principal investigator or researcher) in 90 projects and contracts, financed by international, European, and Spanish institutions and companies. She is the co-founder of a small business dealing with advanced Electromagnetic simulators for the analysis and design of antennas and microwave devices.
Senior Technical Program Manager, Amazon - 15 years of research and industrial experience in solution designs, systems engineering, hardware and software development with proven track record in design and development of complex large-scale software and computing systems across inter-disciplinary domains. Ability to multitask and prioritize critical tasks with strong project management and communication skills in leading global cross-functional teams on cutting-edge product and solution development. Sound experience in driving core software development life cycle activities including requirements gathering, analysis and design, development and testing, quality assurance, operations support and sustaining efforts.

Bozenna Pasik-Duncan is a Professor of Mathematics, a Courtesy Professor of both EECS and AE, and an ITTC Investigator at the University of Kansas. Her research interests are primarily in stochastic systems and stochastic adaptive control, system identification and estimation, and control education as a field that spans science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.
Wafa Ben Hmida
Wafa Ben Hmida is a London-based Software Developer currently working as a Software Developer in Test for Ocado Technology. Previously, she has experience of software quality assurance for the BMW Group.
She is a strong advocate of female participation in STEM careers and have given talks on the subject in conferences in Tunisia, Poland, Germany and USA. She is also a member of the Women in Engineering committee for Europe, Middle East and Africa for IEEE.
Simay specialized in the solar and renewable energy industry since 2012. She worked in China and Turkey and mostly focused on international commercial activities including communications, marketing, sales, investment management, and business development. She is currently the Chief Commercial Officer at Innoses -Ruiyi (Shanghai) Renewable Energy Technology Co., Ltd. in the field of energy storage for renewable energy and electric vehicles and she is in charge of global marketing and business development initiatives
